About Dr Lené Le Roux
Dr Lené Le Roux is an experienced Mental Health Care GP practising in Claremont, Cape Town.
She has 9 years of experience working full-time in the mental health field of medicine, including 5 years at inpatient and outpatient departments in psychiatric hospitals in Cape Town, such as Valkenberg Hospital, Alexandra Hospital and Groote Schuur. She spent 3.5 years as a psychiatry registrar in the postgraduate specialist psychiatry programme at UCT.
However, she resigned from the program after having her first child and has been practising full-time at her private practice as a Mental Health GP for over 4 years. She assesses and manages general adult psychiatric conditions, has worked extensively with adolescents over the past few years and has gained a deeper understanding of teens and supporting their needs.
During her years as a mental health care doctor, she has worked closely with families to help them support their family members through recovery and to achieve mental wellness. Dr le Roux works with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, occupational therapists, and other medical specialists or GPs, to provide patients with holistic management of their mental health.
In her private practice, she focuses on assessing and treating depression and anxiety in adults and adolescents, ADHD diagnosis and management, and the management of burnout. As a mom of two children, she is passionate about working with moms and supporting their mental health journey in the post-partum period and all other aspects of motherhood. Moreover, during her time working in tertiary psychiatric hospitals, she gained extensive experience in managing psychotic disorders and mood disorders.
Dr le Roux is diligent, hard-working and highly passionate about mental health care. She strives to make the practice a welcoming and inclusive space for patients and the practice team members.
In addition to her clinical duties and running her practice, she is involved in ongoing learning. She attends many SASOP conferences each year, including the international ADHD, biological, and general psychiatry conferences. This is to ensure that she remains up to date with new developments and broadens her understanding. She attends monthly medical talks throughout the year, and in 2024, she also attended an additional short course in ADHD for medical practitioners.
In her spare time Dr Le Roux loves to spend time with her family and friends at home around the braai. She enjoys exploring the Cape Town food scene, cooking, and regular camping trips. Her son recently went on his first camping trip when he was only 5 months old.
